 communities pulling together

In 2008, the Invasive Plant Council of BC teamed up with the BC Ministry of Agriculture of Lands to coordinate a province-wide community weed pulling program.  Feedback from the program has been positive, and will hopefully gain popularity as it continues into the 2009 field season.

The purpose of a Community Weed Pull is to facilitate effective invasive plant management on high priority sites which have limited management options, such as riparian and pesticide free zones, in regions of BC, while increasing awareness of the impacts and ecology of invasive plants. As an incentive to participate in the program, volunteer groups receive a $250 honorarium following the successful completion of a “Communities Pulling Together” event.

If you would like to discuss the program and possible weed-pull areas within the Thompson-Nicola region, contact the SIWMC coordinator.  If you would like to learn more about the history of the "Communities Pulling Together" program in BC, or to download the registration form, click here.
